American Airlines is introducing a generative artificial intelligence (gen AI) tool to help with travel inspiration and planning.
Customers can type in a trip idea, with the tool then providing “curated destination suggestions” from American’s network.
“Each recommendation is informed by real travel trends, customer preferences and real-time fares available on American,” the carrier said in a press release.
A video overview of the tool has a prompt that reads, “I want to go on a 7 day trip with friends where we can explore during the day and enjoy ourselves at night with good food.”

The tool then generates a list of recommended destinations with travel dates and fares. After selecting a location, travelers can use an interactive map to discover attractions.
The carrier said it “inspires customers to plan travel based on experiences, not just locations.”
A version of the AI tool will be available in American’s mobile app in the coming weeks.
The airline has also launched check-in kiosks and an interactive 3D seat map for its Boeing 787-9 aircraft, allowing customers to “visualize their flight experience through interactive imagery.”
Additionally, travelers can now provide one-time consent and have their American Airlines boarding passes automatically added to their digital wallet. Boarding passes can now be added to Google Wallet as well.
